An arbitrary place to begin.

Watch me as I take the hard work of dozens of people throughout history and assign an arbitrary rating to it (0 to 10 Hooseys). Each week I'll assign a rating to a book, CD, movie, concert or other random thing that I have experienced recently. This framework should help me update more often, and as I believe we all bring our own frame of reference to things we encounter, you'll get to know me a bit in the process.

I call it arbitrary because I doubt there will be a strict standard to my ratings that will hold up under scrutiny. I call it commodification because it's taking the hard work that (if it's done right and not for purely capital gain) somebody has poured their heart and soul into, and telling you whether or not I liked it. I call it pretentious, cause I'm clearly in no position to be making value judgements of someone else's work especially with my limited (but growing) knowledge of literature and music. I mean just read the last two paragraphs. They reek of pretension. (So did that sentence.)

I'll post my first review soon.

Endnotes:
I had to check this website to see if I was using the word pretentious correctly.
